Woodpeckers in the Mist
Woodpeckers in the Mist
$130.00 – $300.00
This piece is two Pileated Woodpeckers in a foggy oak forest. The Original has been sold, but prints are available.
Every time a pileated woodpecker hammers their beak into a tree, a force of 1,200-1,400 g's is exerted. In contrast, a force of 60-100 g's can cause a human concussion. These birds were created with 2 unique characteristics that make this possible. First, their tongues wrap around their skulls which act as a brain shock absorber. Second, they have a higher amount of tau protein inside their skulls. This acts sort of like a neuron skeletal system. What beautifully engineered little creatures!
